Tuesday Night Skate (TNS) - Beginner/Intermediate
Hi everyone! Tuesday Night Skates are in full effect! Meet every Tuesday outside of the NOMA-Galladudet U Station at the North entrance (1305 2nd St NE). We will head out at 7pm sharp for an 8 mile skate followed by pizza! We'll skate up the Metropolitan Branch Trail to the Ft. Totten Metro station and back down the trail to M St NE for pizza at Andy's. See ya there! This skate is led by Naroa, Asher, and myself. 🛼 This ride is BEGINNER FRIENDLY! While the full ride is 8 miles long, you have the option to tap out at one of the three red line metro stations along the route in both directions. You'll also have an opportunity to learn new skills and practice drills with the skate leaders at our regroupping spots along the route. The tap out points are as follows: 2 miles: Rhode Island Ave Metro 2.5 miles: Brookland Metro 4 miles: Ft Totten Metro 6 miles: Brookland Metro (on the way back) 7 miles: Rhode Island Ave Metro (on the way back) 8 miles: Andy's Pizza This is a great way to test and build up your endurance while skating! At least one of the skate leaders will skate at your pace, so you'll never be left behind. Join us at Andy's Pizza afterwards for a FREE slice of pizza with the purchase of any alcoholic beverage or N/A lemonade! Introductory Clinic
As a reminder, since Freedom Plaza is under construction, we will meet at the plaza in front of The International Trade Center near the National Children's Museum (on Pennsylvania Ave). We'll begin with going over a few drills (varies week to week). The skills we drill will be for the first 30 minutes. For the second half, we will casually skate down the bike lanes on Pennsylvania Avenue from the plaza to the U.S.Capitol and stop at 3rd St. and then skate back the same route. This route is about 2 miles in total and is perfect for those who are new to skating in the city but feel comfortable on skates in a parking lot or roller rink. This is also great if you wish to start with shorter routes to increase your physical fitness or stamina for some of the other routes. This is an excellent opportunity to prepare to skate with others on the road. You will also get to meet skaters who will arrive for the Intermediate and Advanced skate routes following the introductory skate. This is great training to feel prepared for the Tuesday Night and Friday Night Skate! Sunday Skate: Eastern Alley Adventure!
🛼 Sunday Morning Alley Adventure! 🗑️✨ Feeling a little "behind the curve" or just in the mood for something unconventional? This week, we’re ditching the smooth pavement for a grit-filled journey through the hidden paths of D.C. We’re heading East to explore a maze of random alleys. Why? Because your wheels are looking a little too pristine, and your feet probably need to build some character. It’s going to be bumpy, it’s going to be weird, and it’s definitely going to be a vibe. The Details: When: Tomorrow, May 10th. Meet Up: 10:00 AM at Pershing Plaza Corner of Penn, Ave. and 14th St. (Reminder: Freedom Plaza is still closed for rehabilitation!) Wheels Down: 10:10 AM sharp. The Vibe: A slow, chill, and "trashy" pace. Introductory Skate Clinic
Skill drills, then casually skate down the bike lanes on Pennsylvania Avenue to the U.S. Capitol, stopping at 3rd St., before returning to Freedom Plaza (2 miles).
Tuesday Night Skate
Distances: 8 or 12 miles only. Fast paced fitness skate. The route is well-known, with minimal pavement hazards, allowing for uninterrupted skating.
